This handsome Red Heeler/Rat Terrier mix pup is about 25 months old and finds himself in need of a new home. Jeff is neutered, up to date on his vaccines and on heart worm prevention. Jeff is a sweet buddy boy who loves to cuddle and play with his deflated soccer ball. He is great with other dogs, and curious about cats (although the cat wasn't too happy about him!) Jeffery has been trained to sit, stay, lay down, come, get off furniture, get on furniture, and to get his ball. He is also trained to go to potty when told to! Jeff is not too happy to be in his crate when left alone, but is more than happy to sleep in it when you are nearby. Jeff is pretty scared of people that he does not know and he deals with his fear by growling, barking, and looking scary. Although he looks fierce and as if he would like to bite, he never has. It seems his philosophy is 'the best defense is a good offense' which makes it difficult to introduce him to a potential adopter who doesn't understand that. He appears quite fierce until he knows you, but he is actually very sweet. He needs an adopter familiar with the Heeler breed and who is a strong, confident pack leader. A strong leader will give Jeff the security he needs to know that he is safe and being protected by you -- so he does not need to react in a fearful, frightening way around every new person he meets. It will take work and consistency, but he can definitely learn and it will make him a much happier boy overall. Because he frightens easily, Jeff probably would do best in a home without young children or highly active children who may startle him. If you have a heart for Heelers and know how to work with them, we'd love for you to meet Jeff!
