Nova, born 3/24/18 is on his 2nd rescue with us here. ���� He was first purchased by an inexperienced couple without Giant experience and very small children. One of the children climbed on him and he nipped the child, so they surrendered him to the shelter in Wyoming in March of 2019. He was then rescued in 4/2019 by a couple who were young students in law school and truly loved animals. He fell in love quickly and fit in well with the pack, he graduated beginner training class and knew his basics well. Yet, demanding scheduling did not allow for proper socialization and he became very territorial and protective on their property. He then had two more incidents over the next several months. The first was when he was outside with his mom while gardening and a jogger ran by on the sidewalk, he reacted with a fear nip and then immediately hid behind mom. The second was when workers were doing work on the home and his dad had asked them to wait so they could put Nova up. Unfortunately, this wasn't understood and he did the same thing, nipped and then backed away. This is known as 'Stranger anxiety ' and the nipping and then backing away is a fear response. Animal control deemed him aggressive and harrassed the couple to have him put down. They reached out for help via our network. He was then surrendered to us about 4 weeks ago. His now 2nd rescue... Since then he has been worked with daily. He loves other dogs and has gone to events and loves children (whom understand boundaries) and meeting new people. He has shown zero fear or signs of stranger anxiety in public nor in his foster home. He is however been quite excited on leash and needs refreshers on his leash and basic skills. He truly is an amazing boy who simply needs continued work with socialization and newcomers in his future home. It would have been a tragedy to have such a wonderful free spirited young boy put down due to lack of experience with his breed. We are searching for his forever home with Saint Bernard experience, time to devote to his territorial issues and anxiety with strangers in the home. We are in no hurry to place him, but if he can find the right home with experience, we will happily place him in his forever home for the last time! He has amazing tail swag, beautiful curls all over his back and is truly just a puppy full of love to give the right family.
