About Tux

Adoption Fee: $200
Boxer / Border Collie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Tux is a chocolate and vanilla 57-pound, three-year-old mixed breed dog looking for a loving guardian. This guy looks like a boxer/lab/border collie/pit bull-mix. And, he has the best qualities of all breeds. Tux gets along fabulously with all animals: dogs, cats, guinea pigs - everyone! He's a super snuggler for anyone who allows their dog in bed or on the couch with them. And, when another dog wants a toy, he just walks away. He has no food or toy aggression at all. Tux showed up on a woman's house in Terre Haute, Indiana, last September and she brought him to a shelter. So, we don't really know his back story. He came to the Friends of Petraits Rescue in Chicago in February and was adopted by a wonderful family. The family has taken him through professional training and he is incredibly well-behaved in the home with his family. He has a huge vocabulary 'leave it,' 'sit,' 'stay,' 'here,' 'wait,' 'sit pretty,' 'down,' 'roll over,' 'target,' 'finish,' and 'paw.' However, he is very protective of his home and family and even though he is fabulous with the seven-year-old child he currently lives with, he is aggressive with other children that he sees that come to the home, or that he sees outside. To manage the situation, the family crates Tux when people come over - especially children. Or, introduces him to people outside and they walk in the home together. He LOVES the dog park, but if a family with children come to the park, Tux gets his leash back on and leaves. He's also not great with wheels (bikes, wagons, skates, etc.). And, even though he's fabulous with indoor pets, he does chase and pull towards rabbits outside'| completely understandable if you are a dog! He loves to take car rides and will wait patiently and quietly in the car for his humans. A home with a fenced yard would be perfect for Tux, as he loves to keep squirrels at bay. This pup has a wonderful and gentle spirit. He is housebroken, crate-trained and is as loving a dog as I've ever met. Tuxedo is perfectly healthy, neutered, up-to-date on rabies, distemper, bordetella, & flu vaccines, de-wormed, microchipped, and on monthly heartworm and quarterly flea/tick preventative. He comes with absolutely everything you need to care for him: toys, lead and harness, car harness/seatbelt, crate, a fluffy bed, bowls, starter-bag of food. His adoption fee of $200 benefits the Friends of Petraits Rescue. If you're interested in meeting and possibly adopting this wonderful dog, please contact [email protected]
