About Wrangler-PENDING!

Golden Retriever / Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Wrangler is a great example of why people love Golden Retrievers mixed with Aussie..or another popular herding breed. Wrangler appears to be one of these mixes that are opportunistically bred for their smaller size, super-intelligence, very engaging temperaments and gorgeous golden coats. Wrangler's gorgeous bright blue eyes reflect his super-smarts and some of the pain of his earlier life. They are kind and filled with wisdom beyond his young age. At just about 1.5 years old (such a great age..young enough to have many, many active, healthy years ahead and old enough to be beyond babyish behaviors) and a great medium size of 44 lbs...a perfect size to accompany his family on long hikes and dog-friendly adventures Wrangler is an extremely loyal and loving guy who bonds hard and falls in love with those that are kind and loving. Wrangler had a tough early start in life and ended up homeless in Texas through no fault of his own. He appears to have been treated abusively...this brave guy has obviously been struck around his face and ears early on and is uncomfortable with being suddenly touched in that area. He never shows aggression but needs to be worked with slowly to gain comfort with that type of touching. As his trainer has worked with him, Wrangler has become comfortable with his touching all parts of his body. WRANGLER'S STORY... Wrangler wandered onto a ranch outside of Tyler, Texas. He was extremely thin and covered with stickers...but very approachable and friendly. He appeared to have had a home earlier in his life as he was wearing an old worn collar with a rope attached that had been chewed apart. The couple that found him on their ranch immediately began looking for some history on Wrangler..he was so sweet that they wanted to believe that someone was really missing him. Through their search, they found that he had been tied to a tree for his entire life with only occasional food, no water (drinking rain water when it was available) and only unkind human interaction. Highway Hounds (compassionate rescuers that serve Tyler, TX) was notified by a compassionate neighbor of the ranch in hopes of saving Wrangler's life. He reported that the couple had just left to take Wrangler to the local pound to be euthanized. Apparently, they felt that due to his abusive past, Wrangler wasn't a candidate for adoption. The neighbor conveyed that when he met Wrangler, while he was very frightened, he had a light of hope in his eyes. He felt that Wrangler, once with a kind family in a nurturing home, would be a gift and begged Highway Hounds to act immediately to save his life! Wrangler's final ride was successfully stopped halfway to the pound by his rescuers. He was then diverted to the local vet where he was scanned for a microchip (none was found), completely vetted and neutered..and finally brought to a foster home for pure love, excellent nutrition and the opportunity to begin work with a compassionate trainer (who quickly fell in love with the sweet nature of this very brave spirit). Wrangler graduated with flying colors and now deserves a family to love like crazy and and for them to love him back just as much. Wrangler would thrive with a family with dog-crazy older kids who enjoy fun activities with their dog. They would be able to participate in positive reinforcement group training classes to continue Wrangler's education. With this continued training, Wrangler will be able to accompany his family out in the community with excellent behavior. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force free trainers in your area. Wrangler is a perfect candidate for agility, frisbee, flyball or other similar activities that speak to the special abilities of these dogs. Herding dog mixes always do better (like all dogs) with an outlet for the energy they possess. Finding the right activities to keep them healthy and happy should be relatively easy. There are so many different options for a herder and each one helps form a close bond between a dog and his people. Wrangler can be relied on to share his love and best behavior with his humans. He is a wonderful and exceptionally devoted best friend who wants nothing more than to share time, play and learning new skills with a kind and committed family. There's no question that a full-time workday for his family won't work for Wrangler. He thrives on family-time and being at home while his people work full-time isn't in the best interest of this devoted companion. Special arrangements can be made for doggy daycare or a dog-walker or hiker to keep Wrangler happy and engaged all day long. Wrangler will be arriving in Denver in mid to late November (we'll update as soon as transport is confirmed). Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and very loving best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-res. cue/adoption-form/.
