Meet Lady! This brown-eyed girl was spotted at the high-kill shelter of Devore and when we found out that she was pregnant we didn't waste any time getting her out. Lady was wagging her tail a mile minute even though she was covered from head to tail with fleas and ticks and ready to give birth at any moment. Just 20 hours after her rescue she gave birth to six healthy puppies, 5 girls and 1 boy! Postpartum we noticed Lady was having incredible difficulty breathing and just 10 days after giving birth she needed emergency diaphragmatic hernia surgery. Because she cannot nurse, her puppies are being cared for by one of our amazing fosters. While she has endured so much physical and emotional pain Lady absolutely adores being in the presence of humans & gaining their affection. She is great on leash, potty trained, plays well with other dogs big + small, and is cuddle-time ready since she fits perfectly in your lap! It's been a slow and steady journey for Lady and it's time for her to be the puppy she never got to be. Here she is post-surgery thriving in her foster home and healing oh-so-well!
