About Kuma 'No Face'

Akita
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

It is with a heavy heart that we are looking for a new home for Kuma. Kuma is a 5 yr old akita. We have had her since she was 7 months old. She has graduated basic obedience class and is very food-motivated to please people! She is loving once she knows you, but is weary of strangers. She loves to be a guard dog but is also part of our family, enjoys sleeping inside and being where the people are. She is also used to being in the yard during the day but is good in the house, completely house- broken and doesn't chew on anything. Although very sweet, calm and protective with our baby, she can be uneasy around new children. She is excellent on the trail, on hikes and camping. She thrives in cold weather and with lots of exercise. She gets along with some dogs, if introduced in an open shared space, such as the dog park. She has been socialized since a young age, but given her strength and capability, she needs close supervision, and a strong handler just in case. She would do best moving out of the city, and into a home where she has more space to run free. We are looking for a home for Kuma where she can get lots of attention, preferably as the only animal and 'child.' She needs lots of exercise, love and understanding, as well as someone who is confident enough to help her feel secure. Someone who knows or understands the breed would be ideal. Please do not send me emails telling me to go to a trainer or to reconsider, or guilting me about how she may not be happy with someone else. Believe me, we are trying everything and we love her dearly. Unfortunately there are conditions to our living situation that we cannot control at this time. If you think you could provide her with space, exercise, training practice and attention, please let us know and we could meet up and see if it could be a good match. Thank you.
