About Kevin & Malcolm

Kevin and Malcolm are a bonded pair of Rat Terriers, who were rescued from a hoarding case in Georgia. Since arriving at their foster home in September, Kevin and Malcolm have made great progress in learning how to be dogs. As 1-year-old Kevin becomes more confident, his little 12-lb. frame fills with spunky, playful energy. Malcolm has been slower to come out of his shell, maybe because at around 2 years old, he endured the terrible hoarding situation longer, so adjusting to life after that misery is harder for him. Affectionately nicknamed 'Pancake' by his vet, 20-lb. Malcolm flattens out on the floor when he is frightened. Recently, Malcolm has started wearing a Thundershirt in situations that make him nervous, and that really helps keep him calm. Kevin and Malcolm appreciate their foster parents for allowing them to develop and improve at their own pace. They have discovered the joy of toys and Kevin loves a rousing game of fetch, while Malcolm prefers to cuddle with his prize. They both enjoy the den-like safety of a crate and will contentedly sleep together therein throughout the night, although Kevin prefers to sleep in bed with his foster parents when possible. They understand that outside is the place for potty business and they are about 90% accurate with it, though accidents may happen when they are frightened. The world outside their foster home frightens them, so they need the security of a fenced yard. Kevin and Malcolm are very capable of developing a deep, affectionate bond with a female caregiver, but men scare the socks off of them. They will do best in a female-only home, without small children or frequent visitors, with a Mom (or two!) who wants to surround them with affection, toys, and warm blankets. To ensure a successful adoption, their adoptive home should be located within driving distance of New Berlin, WI, to allow for meeting before adoption.
