About Jake

Cairn / Maltese
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

When Jake's rescuer walked down the aisle of the dismal New Mexico shelter, she was shocked to see the adorable (and extremely dirty and matted) Jake tucked tightly into a cage...his time was up for lack of space. Farfel's immediately got a call describing how cute and sweet this tiny Terrier mix is..and the need to save his life. We immediately agreed and Jake became a very treasured Farfel's dog. He earned a ticket to a wonderful new life in Colorado with his great temperament that held every possibility for a great future. At just about 2.5 years old and 10 lbs, this very adorable pup is a blank slate waiting for positive input and guidance to be the best dog he's capable of being. We'd love to match Jake to a family that will spend lots of time with this very portable guy. He's a perfect size to accompany his family just about anywhere a small guy is welcome...and would love it. Positive reinforcement group obedience class will not only provide socialization and great skills...but will cement the relationship between Jake and his family. He's so smart that he's a natural to succeed in learning his skills...and would be so excited at his success! Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement trainers in your area. Jake always gets lots of attention when he's out and about with his rescuer...he's engaging (while shy at first) and as sweet as can be. He's also extremely eye-catching with his fawn-colored coat and gorgeous dark eyes that speak of so much wisdom. Jake has been identified as a Cairn/Maltese Terrier mix but we would never swear to it. He's just an adorable and fun scruffy guy that's irresistible! When Jake turns that gentle look in your direction, you can't help but smile at his engaging ways. You can see a bit of a sign that this young pup has had difficult times. But not for him to be negative..a smile and a wag is more Jake's style once he's comfortable in his environment. It's clear that he is working on leaving any pain behind. Farfel's Rescue is searching for either active retirees for Jake (he would be overjoyed with being the center of a loving family and the amount of time spent together). Jake would also be great with a younger family with dog-crazy older kids (we wouldn't want tail-pulling or awkward handling by young kids for this tiny guy). Jake, once bonded, will be a loyal best friend who would love nothing more than time together or socializing with friends. Jake would also enjoy fun with dogs of similar size who can be gentle playmates. When you're only 10 lbs, even a well-adjusted pup can be intimidated by large, rambunctious dogs. Jake is so grateful being out of the shelter that there's almost a smile on his cuter than cute face. He is a very happy guy once he's comfortable...a bit of patience, treats and belly rubs will truly get this guy's attention as he's had far too little of all in his life. Jake's rescuer is very happy to report that Jake is coming out of his shell more each day...he's slowly blossoming. She's very clear that Jake will be a wonderful and bonded family member when he has love and nurturing as an active part of his life. Jake is up to date on his vetting, but has yet to be neutered. We're hoping that he will be fixed when he arrives from New Mexico, however rescue dogs are often overlooked in this city with too many dogs and not enough vets. If this is the case, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Jake to be neutered and microchipped at one of our rescue vets to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Jake will be arriving on transport in Denver in mid-November (we'll update when information is confirmed). Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, engaging and loving best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** Farfel's Rescue makes huge efforts to place our dogs with families that are excellent matches. We do this through our 6-page Farfel's application found on the link above or at farfels.com (never through rescue site apps as they don't provide enough information). If you're truly interested in adopting Jake, please be sure to fill out the Farfel's adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
