About Sport

Adoption Fee: $250
Rat Terrier
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

This handsome boy is Sport! He is a 9 year old Rat Terrier who weighs about 14 pounds. Sport was surrendered to us by his elderly owners who felt they couldn't take care of him properly anymore. Little Sport is really hard to figure out. He has relaxed quite a bit in his foster home, but there were times when he had episodes of pure terror. Sport would run behind things or sit in the yard shaking and would try to bite if you picked him up to comfort him. The episodes lasted about 30 to 45 minutes. The rest of the day he would follow his foster family everywhere and sit right next to them. There is a possibility he has been treated badly in the past. So what to do? We decided to give him CBD oil and time and see if that helped. A few weeks later and now Sport will get in your lap with the other dogs with no problems. He's been playing with toys and with his foster mom's dog. His most difficult time is in the evening, any time it rains (doesn't have to be a storm) and bedtime. He mainly shakes, but his foster mom can comfort him. He definitely has a fear of men, but only in the times listed above. He loves his foster dad the rest of the time. He loves to ride in the car and his foster dad takes him everywhere. Sport can be timid in new situations or around people he doesn't know. We definitely think something happened in his old home that scared him when he was being picked up and he still has some issues with that. Once he knows you and trusts you, Sport is cuddly and loving, but he needs a patient owner who will let him learn to trust. Sport is housebroken, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, neutered, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. We are seeing so much progress with the CBD oil, but still he needs a special person to love him and help mend his wounded soul.
