About Mollie (Mo)

Adoption Fee: $25
Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

We believe Mollie (Mo) is a Red Heeler and Pitty mix. We will only consider homes that can give her more activity than we currently do, ones not in the city or where she needs to be leashed to walk. If she comes upon other dogs while walking, who are or aren't leashed, she will try to attack. She would love to have a 'job' and is very obedient and learns commands at the drop of a hat. She is highly intelligent. Unfortunately, my health is deteriorating with a heart and muscle weakness disorder and I find it difficult to take her out for activities, especially in the cold or icy months. My husband does at times but he has been busy just trying to maintain our household due to my inability to help as much. Mollie has never been a flight risk, even with wildlife right in front of her. Her biggest issue is that she fears other dogs and responds to them with aggressive and attacking. Usually it has been me with her when these have occured and I am beginning to physically be unable to deal with it. The few times dog fights have occurred were because the other dogs came onto our property and were running at us (thinking we were all friendly and welcoming). She reacted in a protective manner thru fear. I had posted Mollie to this site a year ago. We had rescued her and were her 3rd owner in less than 4 yrs. We had her 6 months then, and were working thru her dominance issues over one of our cats. We have multiple cats and she is fine with several but one is afraid of her and hisses, so then Mo takes that as aggression and not submission, so she attacks, then cat has scratched her. Therefore, there has been about 4-5 attacks on the cat. We keep her from the presence of other dogs, except for occasional visits to my in-laws. They have a very submissive male Golden so she does not attack him but he is very frightened of her and she keeps tabs on him and hovers. We need to travel for the day or ocassionally over night, or now for a week, this Jan. Our deal breakers for a new dog was that it had to get along well with all of our cats in home as well as other dogs, especially our relatives ,a this is the only option we have for pet care in our absence. The previous owners, we feel, kept some of her fear-dominance issues from us or did not know the extent. They said she got along well with a relative's cat when she stayed there but we believe the cat hid the entire time so it was never really around Mo or tested. Things were seeming to go well for months so we were working thru these issues. I had a few people interested on this site previously, but we took the post down as we decided to keep her and make it work. I want to explain her behavior well so that the next home is one without any animals and that she won't be around others nearby. It will be her 4th home and she just turned 5, so hopefully,it will be her final one. We have also not had her around young children tho have never seen human aggression from her and she is very receptive to our commands, except if in middle of an animal fight. The positives about Mo are endless though! We have never had a more intelligent dog. She is very obedient. She does not chase wild animals, such as deer or squirrel, and is not a runner. She stays in the yard and always at our sides. She loves being active, however; has no separation pr and issues and has never chewed anything nor got into trouble inside the home making messes. A few times, we had to leave her for 8-10 hours inside and she never had an accident. She is quiet and sleeps thru the night until others awake. She does not bark except if someone comes to the door. She is a perfect dog other than the dominance issues but, sadly, they are the only ones that we are not able to work thru and the biggest problem with us keeping her. She loves exercise and has learned to swim and jump in lake after a ball. We feel a home that can allow her to exercise and run, especially if part of a farm or on a lake, but without other pets, would be a better, healthy fit for her. Our hearts hurt with the thought of losing her but we've had to make this tough decision and hope all will be better off if a great home can give her a daily job and fresh air where she is the queen there.
