About TULUM

Adoption Fee: $50
Lab mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

In a nutshell: Tulum is an approximately 8 month old male lab retriever mix and is up to date on shots, is neutered, and has been microchipped. He's such a sweet, lovable, energetic goofball in general. We are a couple in East Austin (Travis County) who has taken him in from our eldery non-english speaking landlady because his size and strength had become too much for her to handle. Here is a more thorough history of Tulum as we've come to know him this past month: Our landlady was given a puppy from her daughter earlier this year. The puppy grew more massive than she anticipated and our landlady lacks the physical stature and strength to walk and interact with him (he loves to run and would needs the physical exercise at his young age!). He was therefore never exposed to the world outside of the yard he was kept in with her other dog and is therefore pretty shy/fearful on the walks we've taken him around the busy neighborhood we live in. Seeing that we were always affectionate to Tulum (we have a shared yard) and that our dogs played well together, she reached out to us as her neighbors/tenants if we would like to adopt him. We were incredibly optimistic at first; he had always been submissive to our much older dog and played very well together previously so we thought it could be a suitable match. He is friendly with all other dogs we've come across out on the short walks he's been brave enough to venture out on. After having him this past month, he is still very apprehensive to go on walks and car rides, and pancakes a lot due to his limited exposure to various outside stimuli. We also believe it's possible that there might be a resource guarding issue with toys and food that needs to be attended to if you have another dog (he's fine with humans). We wish we could give him so much more time and the positive- reinforcement training necessary for him to develop the confidence skills for these issues, but we both are away from home a lot due to our work schedules, and we took him in more as a temporary solution to help our landlady out. We truly believe that with the proper care, positive reinforcement, and attentive training, Tulum has the potential to really come out of his shell and thrive! He is absolutely hilarious, very lovable, and extremely quick to learn. In the short month we've had him, he is potty trained and has learned some skills like hand targeting. We really feel the possibilities are endless with him. Please reach out to me via email if you feel Tulum would be a great addition to your household, and we'll go from there. Thank you!
