Meet Kaliope! She is one of the most beautiful sweethearts that you'll ever meet. She was an owner surrender; the owner didn't have time to spend with her. Fortunately we found her when she arrived at the shelter and promised her that we would find her a forever home. Perhaps a lot of people haven't heard of a Corgi/German Shepherd dog breed it is becoming a popular 'designer breed'. Kailope is a mix between a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and a German Shepherd. A German Shepherd Corgi mix is also known as a Corman Shepherd. With this breed mix, the short Corgi legs are the dominant trait, which Kaliope has inherited. She also has a pointed nose and tall erect pointed ears. She is considered small to medium sized, weighing in at approximately 25lbs. Her body is a mix of the dark color of a German Shepherd and her feet and lower legs are the light color of the Corgi. She has not been around cats. She hasn't been around young children so a home with older children or only adults will work best. Kaliope is a bit shy at first as she determines if she can trust you. She is loyal, loving and sweet but can be stubborn if she doesn't get her way. You'll need to be the Alpha in the group or leader of the pack so she'll know who's in charge. She will respect you for this and will be a very loyal girl. If she questions if you are the leader she may 'get some attitude' and turn to her herding instincts, which can make your life miserable. Kaliope is also spirited, strong and sturdy, intelligent and will promise that there is never a dull moment. She will need plenty of exercise as well as activities that stimulate her brain - outdoor ball games work well. Kaliope enjoys(loves)the company of energetic canine companions as long as they are close to her size. So she will need a canine companion in her new home. She is polite and responds well when being walked on a canine Easy Walker dog harness. In summary Kaliope will need lots of exercise and attention since she has a lot of mental and physical energy that needs to be released. Without the exercise her boredom can result in destructiveness. Kaliope will do best in an active home with a nice sized yard that has a secure wall and gate of at least 5-6 feet. Once the day has come to an end, she will love to settle down and cuddle with you as you rub her belly and brush her hair. Brushing is an important task to do as often as you can; this will keep her hair shiny and tangle free. She will shed a fair amount, but not as much as a Corgi. She is crate trained so will not hesitate to climb in her crate and take a snooze. She will provide you with love, comfort, laughter and excitement. All she asks for is a comfy blanket, warmth, food, belly rubs, more food and a wonderful forever home.
