About Bowie

Adoption Fee: $250
American Staffordshire Terrier / Pit Bull
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Hi, I'm Bowie! I'm an American Staffordshire / Pit Bull mix dog who is about 55 lbs and around 2 years old. Although I am mostly black, I have an adorable white lightning bolt shaped mark on my lower chest and belly. I have a lot of energy, but it comes in spurts, so I would do best with a family who does not plan to leave me alone for long periods of time during the day (or has plans for a dog walker or doggy daycare). I am fully housebroken - even after my transition to my new foster family here in Portland I never had an accident. I am crate trained, and even though I don't always love going in initially during the day, I don't seem to mind it once I am actually in there. I also sleep through the night in my crate without issue. I like to spend part of my day sleeping in a sunny spot in the house and watching the world go by in the window, but I also run fast and play hard, so a family with no children under 8 years old would be ideal. I LOVE humans but sometimes I get so excited to say hello that I jump up on people when I meet them (my foster family is working hard on that with me). I also typically roll over and show people my belly to pet shortly after I meet friends new and old. I LOVE car rides and going to places that are dog-friendly like Petco, Lowe's and Wilco. I have also been to the ocean and enjoyed it. When not exploring outside, I am a big fan of toys with squeakers and crinkly sounds. I also won't say no to a Himalayan bone or rawhide. In general, I am pretty food and treat-motivated. I would do best with an owner who has experience with training strong willed dogs, as I can sometimes be as stubborn as I am cute. I can act out when I have too much energy or don't get enough attention, and I sometimes like to steal items I should not be playing with, including pillows and hats. I also still have a puppy habit of nipping when I am playing, but my foster mom and dad are also working to correct that. My prior foster family in Texas said I did great with other dogs, but I have not had much exposure to other pets just yet in the Pacific Northwest. My current foster family has noticed that I have a lot of interest in dogs and think a home with other dogs and a big backyard to run around in would be good for expending some of my energy. I am very intelligent, and have quickly learned to sit at the door before being let out or going on walks. I know commands including 'sit,' 'wait' and 'lay.' I have started obedience training and made some progress. I still pull a lot when on leash (because I am just so excited to explore the world around me) but I do love going on walks. My foster mom and dad currently take me on walks three times a day. I would be a great, loving companion for someone who has the time to continue working with me on obedience training. Feel free to ask my foster mom and dad any additional questions you have, they really love me and want me to find my forever home. Watch my video at https://youtu.be/fRSYDZuQTNs.
