About Louie

Louie is one amazing dog! This guy wound up at the Yonkers Animal Shelter several years ago and spent a year there even with his sweet and fun-loving personality.�%A0As just one of many pit bull mixes in the city shelter, it was hard for a black pit to stand out from the crowd and find a family.�%A0The volunteers and staff absolutely loved him however and helped raise the money to send him to a trainer in Arkansas, hoping that with some more training under his belt, he would be sure to attract more attention and find his forever home. Unfortunately, the trainer called over a year later and said she was putting him down if the Yonkers volunteers couldn't find somewhere to take him. They called us, and well, how could we say no to that face?! �%A0 Louie absolutely adores every cat he sees and would love to have a feline buddy.�%A0He can be food aggressive towards other dogs though and would be best in a single dog family. This big goofball is housebroken, crate trained, and generally well behaved, if a bit strong on a leash. He's extremely energetic and probably wouldn't be a good match for a family with small children just because he might accidently knock them over. He would have no problem hanging out with young kids for short, supervised periods of time since he has never had any aggressive behavior towards people.�%A0 �%A0 Louie has clearly gone through a lot in the last few years of his life and seems a bit lost and unsure how to truly connect to people, even with his sweet personality. It's clear to us that he needs a family willing to take the time to show him he can trust them and prove to him that they will stand by him for the rest of his life.
