About George-PENDING!

Schnauzer / Poodle
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

What a sweet and kind Schnauzer mix our George is! We've been told by NM vets that he's a Schnauzer mixed with Poodle (Schnoodle). This breed mix is becoming a designer mix that is opportunistically being bred for their adorable looks, gorgeous coats and most of all...extreme intelligence with the great temperaments to be an excellent family dog. As a result of this popularity, these pups are being bred, sold for high prices and sometimes dumped if the breeder has any challenges. Farfel's Rescue is very happy to rescue these dogs and find them nurturing and committed homes. At just about 1.5 years old (the perfect age..old enough to be past babyish behaviors and young enough to have many, many healthy years ahead) and just about 15 lbs (perfect hiking and cuddling size), George is an incredibly beautiful guy that, due to his excellent temperament, deserves the best that life has to offer. George was a huge favorite at the high-kill New Mexico shelter he was in. The shelter director always said with a loving smile...We all know Georgie has arrived when we see the wag that starts at his tail and becomes a full-blown body wiggle. That means George is greeting either a friend or anyone who has the potential to be a future playmate. George can definitely be initially shy, assessing the situation to make sure all is OK. This makes perfect sense as he's been through time spent at a very depressing high-kill shelter while his euthanasia date for space loomed. I have to admit my bias toward George and that I was set on getting him to Farfel's in Colorado to begin a new life. When George was identified with a great temperament (and of course everyone at the shelter was in love by this point), Farfel's spoke up to bring him to safety in Colorado with hopes of him joining a very loving forever family. Once he senses that all present are his friends, George is so warm and friendly that he always hopes every pat and kind word will turn into a beloved friend. Both people and other dogs are drawn to George for his kind attitude, gentle nature and fun-loving ways. He is learning to play and waits expectantly...with his eyes so bright and joyful..to run off again just because it's so fun. George seems to have just a bit of leash experience and is in the process of developing his skills. Farfel's Rescue has determined that George would be overjoyed to be part of a very involved and loving home where he is an active and important member of the family. We feel that this would be possible in an adult home (active retirees would be perfect) where George could spend lots of time with a family that loves his companionship. A younger dog-loving family that works out of the home or part-time would be great as well. He would be a great office foot-warmer and companion. George would be overjoyed to spend parts of the day together either hiking or walking the beautiful paths and trails of Colorado. Then at day's end, he's the ultimate snuggler and sleeps soundly through the night. George (like all dogs) would benefit from positive reinforcement group obedience classes that include the whole family - he is a super-smart guy who truly wants to please. Responsible training will give George the skills to be a well-behaved (and therefore truly pleasant) adult dog. Through this leadership by his family, the bond will strengthen and the relationship will be one of mutual respect and love. Farfel's feels very strongly about professional training for our dogs and is seeking a family that makes this choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a listing of approved and excellent force-free trainers in your area. George appears to be a non-shedding or lightly shedding guy...although it's difficult to tell for certain until his sad shelter coat grows out into a healthy and stunning example of his Schnoodle lineage. George will require a commitment to lifelong periodic grooming and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement would do wonders for the health and beauty of George's coat) to keep his hair cottony soft, very healthy and matt-free. George will be up to date on his vetting. We're hoping that he will be neutered when he arrives from New Mexico, however we're not optimistic that this will occur. If it doesn't, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for George to be fixed and microchipped at one of our rescue vets to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. George will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 10/19/19. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If you're interested in this extremely sweet, cuddly and fun-loving best friend, please fill out our application completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting George please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog.
