About FIJI

Courtesy Posting: FIJI Baltimore County Shelter, Baltimore, MD FOSTER/RESCUED NEEDED ASAP X URGENT at BALTIMORE SHELTER!! 'Fiji' the BEAUTIFUL 10 Year Old Chow!!!!! Baltimore Co., MD Shelter!!!!! Fiji is a 10 year old Chow Chow who came to the Baltimore County shelter as an owner surrender after his owner could no longer have him due to breed restrictions. His previous owner stated that Fiji had been a wonderful companion over the years. Fiji was not socialized a lot throughout life other than with his direct family. His previous owner stated that he does not like cats and hasn't been around other dogs closely. He did well with children in his younger years, but had recently become irritable around the owners toddler aged grandchild. There was an incident where the child was left alone with Fiji and the owner heard Fiji growl, he knocked over the child and ran out of the room. Fiji did not bite the child and the events leading up to him running out of the room are unknown. It should be noted that Fiji is arthritic and the owner did mention that there is a possibility the child may have stepped on him. Upon examination at the shelter Fiji was also found to have a matted coat, muscle wasting and lick granulomas. While at the shelter Fiji has been standoffish with staff members that he isn't familiar with, but easily handled by those who work closely with him. When Fiji is alone with a person who he is comfortable with he enjoys 'butt scratches' and is very laid back. Fiji was made adoptable, but unfortunately bit a person who he wasn't familiar with when they were attempting to get his leash off of him. He is already done with his quarantine and now ready to go to rescue that understands his breed and will be able to find him the perfect placement. We are therefore also in need of a foster or foster to adopt for a rescue to step up to save him. Fiji is neutered, microchipped, tested negative for heartworms and is up to date on vaccinations. He is 53 lbs of fluff. He is now very urgent at the shelter where he is rescue only. We can pair interested parties with a rescue.
