About Mr. Toby

Mr. Toby is an 8 year old, 8 pound Yorkshire Terrier who was owner surrendered to us. His people did not want him anymore and weren't really taking care of him. He was in pretty rough shape when he came in. He had an eye infection, an ear infection, and was very matted and rough looking. Since he's been with us he's doing so much better! Now that his ear infection is cleared up Mr. Toby eagerly comes when he is called! Another exciting development is that even though he is mostly blind, he can see light! So Mr. Toby can find his way around his house and his yard independently. It is amazing to watch him cautiously explore a new place and then navigate it almost as a fully sighted dog! Mr. Toby really enjoys his life every day. He will do his business outside if he's let out regularly. He enjoys strolling around the yard, smelling everything, or going for a walk on a leash. He loves praise, back rubs, belly rubs, treats, kisses on his ears, lap time and meal time. He prefers to sleep on the big bed but needs a little help to get up there. He even enjoys being dressed in comfortable dog clothes on cooler days! Mr. Toby is a happy, secure dog who likes people and other dogs. His foster mom thinks he would do well with cats too. We do not recommend a home with small children due to his sight issue. He can be a little hesitant in unfamiliar settings and will need a few days to learn his way around, but he settles in once he has mapped his new surroundings. Mr. Toby has had a dental, is up to date on shots, neutered, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. He tested slightly positive for heartworms but the treatment is simple and involves giving him a particular heartworm preventative once a month until he tests negative. The rescue pays for his testing every six months until he gets the all clear. He has a little dry eye and will need daily eye drops for the rest of his life. The drops cost about $13 a month. Mr. Toby would love a family of his own to give him lots of snuggles and love. He will love you with all of his grateful heart, like someone who has lost everything and found it again!
