About Carter

Hi, my name is Carter, and I am patiently waiting with my foster mom until I can be united with my forever family. At approx. seven years old, I am covered in white/tan fur with adorable big eyes, and I weigh approximately 5 pounds. I was found abandoned in someone's backyard and not well cared for (my nails were super long!). However, I will be so happy when I can finally settle in one place for the rest of my life with someone who will truly love me as their own. I am low energy, and I love to snuggle in blankets on the couch. My favorite thing in the whole world is being scratched on my back and hind end. If your hand gets tired and you stop petting too soon, I will try to remind you that I still need additional scratches by playfully dancing around. However, I prefer that my head and ears are not petted because I am afraid that it might hurt (due to being handled too roughly in the past), and I may squeak if you touch them too much. I also like to sleep inside my bed, and if you ever have trouble finding me, there is a good chance I will be buried under the blankets of my bed. Furthermore, I LOVE to sleep in your bed at night, and I never jump down or have accidents. In the mornings, I am happy to run outside to relieve myself. If you have to leave, I would prefer to be placed on the bed to sleep until you come home to spend time with me, but you can also put me in a playpen/crate. When you return, I will wait patiently until you put on my harness to take me outside. I am very good at waiting until I can go in the grass to pee. It may take a little while for new people to gain my trust, and sometimes I am easily frightened. However, after I understand that you only want to be my friend, my main goal is to see how quickly I can curl beside you and be petted. Please, be patient with me because I just want to know that I can feel safe with you. Also, I do well with other smaller dogs, but I am very shy and sometimes intimidated by more dominant personalities. I will always let others take my spot or my treats if they want, and I never act aggressively. Although, sometimes I bark at really big dogs because they are scary! I am currently in perfect health, and I love to venture outside and smell new things. So, I hope my new family likes to go for long walks (I don't pull at all!). My current temporary home is in Louisville, KY, but my foster mom has promised me that she will transport me to my new forever home.
