About Fenix (west)

Hi, my name is FENIX - ID#A4317422. I am a male, brindle and white American Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter staff think I am about 2 years and 1 month old, and I have been at the shelter since Sep 20, 2019. When Fenix was picked up as a stray, some children had been throwing sticks and rocks at him. He was so terrified he had to be snared in the field. Fenix was supposed to be e-listed today, but he was given another chance for a doggy evaluation and he passed. Fenix is now affiliative with people and other dogs. He is very scared of being leashed and is undersocialized. He would do best in a home with older children or just adults. Fenix will need a patient adopter who is willing to work on socialization and leash training with him. Considering the history of how Fenix has been treated by humans, it's a testament to how quickly dogs can adapt. Following are the latest recorded notes about Fenix by volunteers: '9/30/2019 OBSERVATION Pulled Fenix from back of kennel. He took treats but when the leash was presented he would side step or move back. Continued to give treats and he sat beside me. Leash placed on ground with high value treats in the center. Was able to leash him after about 5 minutes. We slowly walked into the building. Less hesitancy when walking on leash. He played in a meet and greet room with 2 additional volunteers. He walked to each volunteer to seek affection by placing his head on lap, scooting next to a person, and rolling into a volunteer for belly rubs. One volunteer touched his paw and he ran over and moved close to me. Tail wags and kisses throughout entire time in the meet-and-greet room. Leashed him in the meet-and-greet room. Walked to kennel. Went right back into kennel. Removed leash without issue.' Please consider this sweet, abandoned boy for your next furry family member before he faces euthanasia.
