**SPECIAL NEEDS - BEHAVIOR** (FEARFUL/FEAR BITER)- PLEASE READ TO THE END Adorable little HANNA is an extra special girl who needs a very extra special soft spoken owner with lots of patience and a gentle touch. HANNA is a 3 yr old female terrier mix. She is spayed, current on vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped. HANNA was an owner surrender that came from a life of neglect and possibly abuse. She was terrified, and totally unsocialized, untrained, malnourished and desperately in need of grooming when we took her in. She took about a week or so to come out of hiding and about another week to warm up to me. I've worked with her for over a year, and she is completely glued to my side and follows my every move. However, to date, I am the only one that has been able to hold her or pick her up. HANNA would do best someone experienced in rescue and/or fostering working with fearful dogs. She needs a calm home with no young kids but must have at least one other playful dog. She came to us with her 2 puppies and her sister who are all very bonded and playful together, and with other dogs. She is great with other dogs and cats, and LOVES kittens and puppies. HANNA is very sweet and loves to cuddle ONCE SHE TRUSTS YOU. However, she still cowers when you reach to pet her or pick her up. Again, I must emphasize that HANNA is very very fearful. She will hide at first and growl if you get too close. She also may possibly bite if you are too eager to hold/pick her up. YOU MUST leave her be and let her come to you. She will start following you and sniffing or licking the back of your leg when she's ready to start making friends. She is food motivated, so I recommend starting with hand feeding her treats, boiled chicken works great. You must have an immense amount of patience to let her come into her own until she trusts you. It could days, weeks, or even months. So far, I've yet to find the right person willing to work with her. A trainer, someone in the veterinary field, or someone with experience with fearful dogs would be ideal. In addition to fear, HANNA is also an escape artist. She can jump very high (and far out), climb/scale fences and gates, and squeeze thru very tiny openings. You MUST have an extremely secure yard with a block wall at least 5' - preferably 6', high with no openings (slats) at gates - even if reinforced with chicken wire. Absolutely, no chain link fencing. For these reasons, HANNA MUST stay in Lake Havasu City, AZ, and will not be available for out of area adoptions. If you think your are HANNA's special person, please email us to receive an adoption application. Once returned and reviewed, we can schedule a meet-n-greet. SERIOUS INQUIRES ONLY PLEASE. ALL ADOPTIONS REQUIRE AN APPLICATION, HOME CHECK, CONTRACT and ADOPTION FEE.
