About Foster Needed 11/2

Lab / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Doris - Female Yellow Lab/Shepherd Mix about 2 years old and 50lbs. She was shy and unsure of 'us humans' when she arrived at the shelter, but has decided that there are good people in the world and we aren't so bad after all. She has quickly become one of the shelter favorites. Her best day ever is when she is being petted and loved. This girl needs another dog in her life to give her confidence. She LOVES to play with Star, another dog at the shelter. However, when playtime is over this girl shakes in her kennel. It's too loud and chaotic for her in the shelter. She'd love to find a home with people to give her love to! Unfortunately, she is heartworm positive and will need treatment that Safe Haven will provide. It is not contagious to the other dogs in your home as long as they are on heartworm preventative. This program allows you to be the family that greets them when they arrive in Illinois. Foster to Adopt families have the first option to adopt if you determine this is the pup right for you! While you foster, we pay all expenses from vetting, to food and we provide a crate, leash, collars, and toys. Your family provides love (something they desperately needs!) and a safe place to lay their head until they find a forever home. We also require that you have the ability to take the pup to routine veterinary visits at our participating vets. These vets are located in Wheaton, Naperville, Geneva, South Elgin, and Elmhurst. Spay/Neuters are done in Geneva, South Elgin, and North Aurora. We also request that you bring the dog to our adoption events twice a month. These events are typically on Saturday from 10-1 Fostering is the most life giving thing you can do for a dog or puppy! It is a very rewarding experience that will make a huge impact on their life. By becoming a foster you are saving 2 lives - the animal you bring into your home while he or she waits to be adopted, and the animal who gets to take your foster's place in the shelter. Please email [email protected] for a foster application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.
