About Izzy

Chihuahua
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Hi, I'm desperately hoping you can help me. I have a little Chihuahua(6yrs, 12 lbs) I adopted 4 years ago from Oakland humane society. It was an 'all dogs are free' day, and they adopted out dozens and dozens of dogs, but this little one was left- nobody wanted her because she has scoliosis and uses only three of her legs due to her spine and shoulders being so twisted. Her name at the shelter was Esperanza, but I named her Isabella, for the lovely girl in the Hunchback of Notre Dame, because to me she's a princess, not a monster. Izzy for short. She became my ESA dog, and has been by my side 24/7 for years. I was a recovering addict, doing very well, until a year ago my father was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and went downhill quickly and decided to have a medically assisted suicide. At the same time, I lost my job, was evicted from my apartment, and relapsed. I had to send my beautiful young son to Chico to live with my sister. I'm currently trying to repair my life, get into a long-term rehab, and get healthy. Unfortunately, I can't take Izzy. (Believe me, I've asked everywhere). I have no friends or family willing to help. I'm homeless and have no support, but I'm really trying to do the right thing for myself and my son. I can't think of letting Izzy go to the pound because I believe they would put her to sleep. She doesn't appear at first to be a good candidate for adoption. (I used to work at the Berkeley Humane, so I know how the decision making process can go) My wish is that a kind understanding soul would take care of Izzy while I'm in rehab, and I'd be able to get her back when I'm in a sober living environment and back with my son (who adores and misses Izzy terribly) I receive welfare and would gladly contribute towards her care if a suitable person is found. Finding a place for Izzy is the last and only thing preventing me from going immediately to rehab. She's a quirky, loyal sweetheart and deserves a good comfortable life. I love her with all my heart. Please, I hope you will consider giving both of us a second chance at a new life. Sincerely, Katie (510)479-4308 text or email [email protected]
