About Jean-Luc (west)

Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Hi, my name is JEAN-LUC - ID#A4292903. I am a neutered male, white and brindle American Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter staff think I am about 4 years old, and I have been at the shelter since Jul 27, 2019. Jean-Luc was terrified when he first came to the shelter. Like most 'street dogs', he did not understand how to be around humans at all. But he finally came around. Here are a few notes about him from his intake to present day: 7/27/2019; Stoic at intake, allowed all handling. Refused to walk on leash, used cart to kennel. Canine was nervous in kennel and very fearful body posture. He allowed leashing, but immediately flattened and would not walk. He started rolling on leash, and became increasingly reluctant, and ran back to kennel. 7/30/2019: Friendly in the kennel; would not walk on the leash. Second handler bucked dog to the yard. Nervous entrance; appropriate greeting. On and off social interactions; became highly sexually motivated as he gained confidence. 8/27/2019: WALK - Barking at kennel gate, easy once out. Nervous walking, often holding back. Social with handler. 9/1/2019: ENRICHMENT Jean-Luc was taken out for one-on-one enrichment by volunteers. (Speed Dating For Dogs) The following feedback was provided by the Speed Dating Chaperone(s): 'Chaperone stated that the dog seemed very nervous at first, but then allowed to be petted, but still seemed a bit disconnected from their interaction.' 9/18/2019: ENRICHMENT Jean-Luc is receiving daily enrichment. He spent time in play yard, was timid exiting kennel. Became more affiliative as time progressed. Different out of kennel than in kennel. 9/26/2019: ENRICHMENT Jean-Luc is very friendly and enjoys being right near handler while out in the yard. He solicits for attention often, but can be nervous around new people. He spent the day in the office and was given a bully stick. In order for Jean-Luc to continue his improvement, he really needs to be in a home away from the noise and chaos of the shelter. Please consider Jean-Luc for your next furry family member.
