About Dexter

Adoption Fee: $150
Boxer / Mastiff
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

The bad: He requires a home without dogs, small children (kids over 12 are okay), or small animals. He has a high prey drive. He tolerates cats, but to be fully transparent he will attack them if he feels like they are a threat to his food source. For all of the cats he has lived with, this has only had to happen once for them to learn to stay away and they were uninjured. He has also bitten a child and has a bite record in Ashland County as a result. The good: Dexter is a Mastiff/Lab/Rottweiler/Boxer mix. He has an Embark DNA account that I will relinquish to his new owner with his health & breed results. This includes an identifying tag in case he gets lost. His rabies vaccination is good until 2022 & he is up to date on all shots. I will give you his vet records, as well as all of his things. Dexter is great with people. He loves everybody. If you want a super snuggly dog who will lay in bed with you all day and be your protective shadow, he's your guy. When we lived alone he was very low maintenance and did not require a crate or extensive exercise. I had no problems working a fulltime job and leaving him home alone. He knows basic commands and walks well on a leash with a Gentle Leader (he does have some leash reactivity because he gets so excited about meeting people he sees). At 85 lbs. he is a goofy, gentle giant who does not always remember how big he is. He has a flea allergy and seasonal allergies so sometimes he'll need steroid shots & extra medication for those. He has a big bark that will scare off any intruder. Any potential adopter MUST understand that he needs to be the ONLY dog. You cannot adopt him with the notion that he will get better or he 'just needs more training'. Potential new parents should be experienced dog owners. A rehoming fee, vet references, and home check will be required. I'll also require proof that you will get him checked out by a vet after adoption in the form of an appointment confirmation. Dexter's time grows limited and he is due to be euthanized soon.
