About Drake

Treeing Walker Coonhound mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Hi, my name is Drake! I'm looking for the right family and canine brother or sister to call my own. If you've ever experienced ups and downs in life, then you'll understand why I'm in search of a home where I'll be loved for who I am and respected for what I've been through. First, you'll want to know some basics. I'm a two year old, 60-pound male hound mix living with my foster family in Chicopee, MA. I've prepared myself for adoption in many ways, like going to lots of training classes, socializing with people and other dogs, and following a schedule that's suited just for me! I'm an easy-going kind of dog considering all the changes and uncertainties I've experienced. My behavior and obedience skills are really good. I respond to voice commands and go to my kennel when told. I'm a food-motivated guy, and always ready for practicing skills. Did you know that important things like training treats can be auto shipped? Just sayin'| More about moi. I have a playful side and enjoy toys and puzzles. My favorite game is tug. I have a medium energy level and really like being outdoors, going for walks, and hiking on trails. I do have an independent side and very much appreciate being left alone to eat and rest. I do need someone to continue the work I've done, because I really thrive on structure. I just like to know what to expect and plan my day accordingly. But guess what? My foster is a certified trainer and he will show you all the things I know how to do and explain how to work with me. Even though I'm young, I've had a few homes but the humans weren't a good match for me. They didn't take the time to know me. Full disclosure - in the past I bit some people when I was startled by them. My trainer has since desensitized me to reacting this way and I have been nothing but good since! Per my trainer: Drake is a fabulous dog and to stay that way he will need a family who can provide a high degree of structure. For whatever reason he gets very nervous around passing dogs. The new handler should be able to break him out of his fearful/aggressive mindset when he sees passing dogs. The handler should be aware that he will want to react and should be ready to correct him before he does so. If you can say yes with enthusiasm to these questions, then we could be a great match: Do you want a sweet, handsome boy to have around? Do you have a home with no other pets? Do you have a home without children? Are you a person who can provide a high degree of structure? Are you sure?? Will you help me adjust to a new home and work with my trainer to do so? I sure hope you answered a resounding yes to each question! Just complete an application here so we can meet each other soon!
