About Smokey

Smokey is a handsome, sensitive shepherd, who is about 5 years old, intelligent, and highly trainable. He's tends to be a serious guy, is well-mannered and knows many basic commands. True to his breed, he enjoys human companionship, but is wary of strangers, so careful introductions to new people is important. However, once he gets to know you, he may become your new best friend. He's quiet, not demanding, and rides well in the car. Smokey is a big boy at 95 pounds and was too strong for previous adopters to safely handle. However, he really has a gentle nature, walks well on a leash, and quickly bonds to his owner. Smokey has lived with other dogs, gets along easily with mine, but can be selective in who he gets along with. Therefore, he may do best as the only dog in the home. He has also lived with cats and may chase them outdoors for fun, but has never hurt them. This calm dog is housetrained and will appreciate a daily walk. He would make a good office dog, since he's quiet and seems content to just be near you most of the time. Smokey will become an intensely loyal companion for the right owner, who won't have to leave him alone much. He's not destructive -- just sad until his owner returns. He loves to run around and would enjoy living in the country with lots of places to explore.
