About Ozzie

Rottweiler
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

UPDATE ON OZZIE: 10/26/2019 Ozzie was neutered 2 weeks ago and while under the latent effects of anesthesia was brought to our horse ranch to recuperate. Within a week we were able to sit and socialize with him. By week two we were walking trails in our woods (with a training collar) and play with him. He is dog friendly with all of our dogs (multiple different breeds) except our chihuahua. Ozzie is food dominant, cat aggressive, and as of today we don't know about children. He is a VERY good boy, respectful to both myself and my wife. He allows both of us to correct him. Allows me to stand over him and rub all over his head, neck and trunk without giving us any warnings. We are glad he is out of the shelter environment as confinement was not good for him. We will continue to work with him until most of the testosterone has worked its way out of his system, which should be another few weeks. At that time we he will be available to breed specific rescues or breed savvy owners for adoption through the HSDC. At this early stage he seems to be a wonderful guy just put in a bad situation. As a result the ' At Risk for Euthanasia' banner has been removed. ORIGINAL POST: Ozzie was brought to the Humane Society of Dickson County (HSDC) by our local Animal Control officer after he and a female Rottweiler were released into the community by the owners of a puppy mill. Over the last 7 weeks Ozzie has become increasing aggressive to the point the staff is afraid to handle him. He has not bitten however he is food aggressive. He is a beautiful dog, sits on command. Stops his dominant behavior when told to sit and will remain until released. He is not a constant barker, He has not been out of his kennel since arriving at the shelter as we are limited in experience with large breed dogs. Because of his increasing dominant behavior and our inexperience with this breed we are hoping that a large breed rescue / Rottweiler rescue will help save him. Unfortunately we are not equipped to help him and if his behavior continues to become more aggressive euthanasia becomes an option. Please help us with options for this big guy!! We would do a no cost transfer to an authorized/registered breed specific rescue once the HSDC has the opportunity to confirm credentials. Ozzie would be neutered and vaccinated prior to leaving our shelter. Thank you
