About Topaz (west)

Hi, my name is TOPAZ - ID#A4314090. I am a neutered male, chocolate and white American Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter staff think I am about 4 years old, and I have been at the shelter since Sep 07, 2019. Notes from a volunteer who recently spent time with Topaz: 'This beautiful blue eyed pup was so defensive when he was found. That could be because he had a chain and padlock on his neck. Why anyone thinks that is acceptable is beyond me. His early notes indicate that he was growling and staring at the officers that brought him in. Once they were able to cut the lock off, Topaz was somewhat relieved. This boy really needs an experienced person who has patience and understanding that the is not very trusting of people right now. Today, I took him for a walk and he was PERFECT on a leash. We stopped in the shade and he took the time to give me small licks on my hands. I'm guessing he was thankful that he was out of his kennel and had a moment of kindness. Topaz did good in his evaluation with other dogs. He was a little bit invasive with his greetings, but overall was social with other dogs. As mentioned above, this pup needs an experienced and understanding person.
