About Penney

Do you have room in your home and heart for sweet gentle Penney? She is a 9 year old, 24 pound Dachshund Beagle mix who was owner surrendered to us. Her previous owners got a new puppy that Penny did not take too kindly to and Penny lost the only home she knew. She deserves a home of her very own where she will never be replaced again. Penney is a very friendly and affectionate girl. She wants to be right by your side and would be happy being an only dog. For the most part she is indifferent to dogs and cats, but she can be around them. Her foster mom has five dogs with Penny and she gets along with all of them. The only thing that needs to be managed is her food obsession! Penney is food protective and she has no problem with eating another dog's food either! It's an easy fix though... just put her in a pen or crate or room by herself while she and everyone else eats. Once Penney warms up to you (it doesn't take long) she will find her way right into your heart. She's pretty happy wherever she can see you... her best trait-she smiles, and it's enough to brighten your entire day! Penny will sleep at the bottom of the big bed and sometimes cuddle, or in an open door kennel or in a dog bed on the floor. A fenced yard is required for this happy little wanderer. She likes to check things out and will have no problem getting distracted and wandering away. Penney loves to travel, is good in the car, and walks great on a leash. She is up to date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed and microchipped with a lifetime registration. She was recently diagnosed with Cushing's disease (also known as Cushing's syndrome). She does need to be on medication for this and her pills cost about $50 a month. Penny would do so well with an older person or couple that she could adore as much as they adore her!
