About Hazel 2

Hazel originally came to us from Panama City as a Hurricane Michael refugee. She is 3 years old and weighs about 14 pounds. She is a very pretty girl, and we love her eyes! One is blue, and the other is amber! Hazel definitely has been through a lot and we will likely never know the details of what she experienced during that storm. It's not surprising that she needs to learn to trust again in new situations. Her whole world changed and literally crashed around her in a matter of hours! How terrified she must have been! We know she is scared around new people and will take time to build trust and confidence, but we know it can happen for her. In time she has come to love and trust her foster mom and she can be very sweet. She was initially nervous around her foster dog siblings but began to play once she relaxed. Hazel will definitely do best in a home with another dog about her size to help show her the ropes. She will require a fenced in yard because she will run if she is startled. She is good with older kids (if they will take time to let her get to know them), but, due to her timidness, she should not be with younger kids. She has not been tested with cats. Once she is comfortable she loves to be snuggled and to sleep in the bed with her people, but will also sleep in a dog bed if that isn't an option. She is doggie door trained, but may have a few accidents while adjusting to a new environment. Hazel is up to date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. She really needs somebody who is willing to give her the time to settle and trust, on her own terms and timeline, preferably in an environment that is fairly peaceful, so she can just learn to be the pet she was born to be!
