About LOU (The Loveable)

Adoption Fee: $50
Domestic Cat
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Have you been searching for a big, lovable, cuddly cat? Then let me introduce you to LOU, a Black and White Bicolor DOMESTIC LONGHAIR. He is approximately 3 years old, neutered, has his claws and weighs about 13.5 pounds. Lou was taken in by a large local shelter that his foster mom happened to be visiting and saw this boy who clearly had had a run-in with burdock plants as he had lots of burrs entangled in his long fur causing nasty mats. He also had a large wound on his left ear. Even with all that he made himself known by talking and rubbing up against the bars of his enclosure, as if to say: Don't pass me by because I'm a special kitty! And there began his journey with SPCR. Once in our care he was taken to be neutered, have his teeth cleaned, mats removed, his ear tended to. He received the necessary vaccinations and tested for FIV/Felv. It was there that we found out that he tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). There is so much that is now known about this virus. The most important: That cats that test positive can live just as long as a cat that does not have the virus! They need to be provided with annual wellness visits along with prompt visits to see a veterinarian if the cat is showing signs of illness. They also now know that cats that are FIV+ can live side by side with cats that do not test positive for the virus, just as long as the cats all get along peacefully. It has been determined that this virus is transmitted by deep bites inflicted by a cat that is a carrier of the virus. It only effects cats, and can not be transmitted to humans or dogs. If you think you have seen Lou on our adoption website before, you are correct. Lou (or The Big Lebowski, as he was called previously) was adopted out to a wonderful home that had two dogs. We were not certain how Lou would react to living with dogs, but the hope was, that given a slow introduction he would adapt to life with them. Even though the adopter worked to ensure a slow and proper introduction between them all, it was clear that Lou must have had a bad encounter with a dog at some point before he came into rescue. So with great sadness and tears his adopter made the painful decision that Lou needed to come back to us. I know his past adopter would be the first person to tell you what a loving, outgoing cat Lou is(3 Lou loves people, and he loves to be loved. He is talkative, playful, and of course will come sit next to you looking for pets rewarding you with purrs. He's a cat that will sleep next to you at night if you allow him to and follow you around while you're at home. He likes to play with wand toys, but has no problem entertaining himself with various small toys. He also loves sitting in a cat tree watching what's happening outside his foster room windows. His litter box use is 100% as well as his use of scratching posts/boxes. He is fine being on his own, so we know he will make a wonderful 'only cat', however his foster mom has properly introduced him to one of her own female cats that is friendly and easy going and these two cats get along great together. This would be something that could be considered with further discussion. He would be best with children 6 years or older that have lived with cats before. Unfortunately no dogs. If you've been looking for a wonderful, loving companion cat, please don't overlook Lou. He truly is one of the nicest, most lovable cats his foster mom has known. ADOPTION FEE $50.
