About Hawkeye

A big softie in a rough exterior, Hawkeye is similar to the TV character of the same name. Hawkeye is a handsome jokester that enjoys the dog ladies' attention. He loves to play with his foster mom's dogs. He has a goofy side and still acts puppy-like in his exploration of the world. He came from a hoarding case in San Miguel County, so he didn't get to do dog things for at least a couple years. Right from the start, Hawkeye wanted to follow and be with people, but due to his past of being segregated from society, he has some fearful characteristics and he is still progressing in his rehabilitation. He needs a quieter home with a lot of patience from all family members. He will take some time to bond with people and while doing that he will need help learning about his new home and the people in it. Teaching Hawkeye has been a rewarding experience for his foster mom and she will teach any adopter how to help Hawkeye. He likes to play fetch and is excellent walking on leash. He is a quick study and is fully house and crate trained. Hawkeye really wants to belong to a pack and would like a home where someone is around more often than not. Despite his scars, Hawkeye is a lover, not a fighter. The scars you see near his eye are likely from wire and debris that were on the property, not fighting. Hawkeye is about 5 years old. According to his DNA test he is a true New Mexico mutt with Rottweiler, Lab, Husky, Asian Breeds, and Pit bull all mixed up in one dog. He would do best in home with another female dog that likes to play with good manners and a family with children 15 years and older. Due to his fear levels, he needs a quieter home without alot of commotion that smaller children bring. He weighs about 90 pounds. The joy he brings is quite rewarding.
