About GYPSY-1 - $400

Adoption Fee: $400
German Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

GYPSY-1 was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine. GYPSY-1 is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, heartwrom and tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 16 August 2016 and at the time of rescue in the end of August 2019, weighed around 61.00 pounds. The shelter has a breed listing of German Shepherd Dog Mix. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely. GYPSY-1 arrived at the rescue on Thursday,12th September and has settled in great, although she is ready for her new forever home, family and life. Gypsy is a very smart girl and has a lot of energy, she can easily open the kennel gate and a latch has to be put on. The times she has sneaked out she has not been destructive, just had some fun, tormenting the other dogs that are in the kennels running up and down, dragging in the rubbish/trash bags into the kennel and also cleaning supplies. She shares a kennel with Bruno-2 and they are really good friends, they will snuggle together, play together, wrestle together, they share food, water and toys and have a great time - they also can enjoy time on their own in the individual inside kennels. Gypsy is high energy and she definitely needs an active lifestyle, with proper training I think she would be a great candidate for agility type training, she is alert, fun, very responsive, but does push boundaries, as in, when I call them in from playtime she will leave it until she knows I am going to go out and bring them in before she comes in - she has the personality of the teenager whom you send to their bedroom, grounded for mis-behaviour and they then climb down the drain-pipe to go to a party lol. She really needs a family that understands the breed and can give her mentally and physically what she needs. She is great with other dogs, although she can play a little rough, she absolutely loves to run and chase. I think she would be great with kids as long as they respect her. Smaller children would just have to be watched as she could knock them over when she is chasing and playing around - but then in a home environment with the correct lifestyle she would soon settle into a routine. With the right family Gypsy would be a LOT of fun, she is a great dog, loving, happy, social, playful and very affectionate when she ges the chance. Since being at the rescue she has not been around cats or lifestock, so cannot comment on how she would act around them. GYPSY-1 is available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.
