About Ava

I am so happy to finally introduce you all to our sweet mama dog Ava!! She is just finishing her heartworm treatment and is finally ready to find her forever home! This lovely southern lady's name is Ava and she is a 2 year old female German Shepherd Boxer mix. We know this cause we had her DNA tested!! She is a little thing at only 30lbs but is just the sweetest pup you will ever meet. Ava has had quite a rough start in life. She was a stray that had several litters of pups and relied on scraps from the local Sonic to feed herself. The world was really hard on her, and it showed. She is the sweetest girl but is still very shy. You can tell she has been through a lot in her short lifetime! Whoever adopts her needs to understand her need for patience. She has been in foster care for about 3 months now and it took her two to really get comfortable. Even now she if anyone new comes in and tries to pet her she hides in a corner and shakes. She will need a lot of socialization work and a family who will understand her personality given her history, and be patient with her. Luckily, she decided to let rescuers finally catch her and she led them to her 10 puppies which she had tucked away in the woods under an old pile of tin. All the pups have since been adopted and now it's Ava's turn! This sweet lady takes a while to warm up to people, so her new family will need to understand her shyness and have some patience with her. But once she warms up, she's a bundle of fun with the most adorable personality! She loves the collect things in her dog bed, belly rubs, and chasing tennis balls! She gets along great with other dogs and loves to play, but also takes some time to warm up. She is good with cats and chickens and is house trained.
