Donnie is a good, all around dog who would do well in many different environments. He will adapt. He does need someone home with him to shape and mold him but he is easy to teach and eager to learn. Donnie has shown a vast preference for female dogs already. Our ideal puppy adopters are: *experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets *be scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day *and for those gone 4 hours per day have another canine companion in the home *be stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc) If you fit this critera, please apply for this puppy. If you do not fit this criteria, we strongly encourage you to look at our adoptable adult dogs. The number one misconception that we hear routinely from new dog owners is that they want a puppy because they do not think they can handle correcting past bad behaviors or resolving baggage. Not every adoptable rescue dog carries such baggage. Many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who have lost their families through no fault of their own. The second misconception we hear is that adult dogs can not bond with a new family. This again is not a true statement. Adult dogs are ready and eager to give you their love. In return, you get a family pet that is a known quantity, known size and shape and color and ready to start on the new adventure, their life with you. Lastly, training a puppy correctly is a tremendous commitment of time and energy. This is why we ask the puppy seeker have more time at home than the average working family. Puppies are gregarious and social creatures who crave attention and positive direction. You need the extra time to do it right. What is my personality like? Donnie is playful, the leader of his small pack of himself and his sister and he's definitely smart as a whip. At just a few months old, he will already go to the door asking to go out. He already knows crate and he goes to his crate when it's time to lay down. He loves loves toys. Donnie does not share toys although he shares food easily. But toys - he wants All the Toys and while you are at it, all the bones, too. He believes in boundaries and personal space with other dogs. But people can have anything they want. He is respectful to humans and what is his can be yours, all you have to do is ask. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly, wiggly, giggly puppy. Donnie was an outside dog so he is learning the joys of being an inside dog and part of his family pack. Since he had his siblings at first, he did not mind but now he's enjoying living in a house. You need to be prepared for that work. Because our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious where we put puppies. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
