Foster location: I am going to New York! Weight: 9.7 lbs Height: 11.5 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $349 NY Fence needed? No, can squeeze through small spaces. What kind of home would be best for me? Whiskey would love any home with humans looking for a sweet and calm companion. He would be fine living with another canine companion - or even a cat! His main concern is people, Whiskey is a classic velcro dog who wants his people right there with him at all times. Due to this personality type, he tends to stress out in a crate but he has gotten much better than when he first came to us. What is my personality like? Whiskey reminds us a bit of Petey from the Little Rascals. Physically he meets the criteria (small black and white dog) with big ears, a big heart, and wants to be right where people are in the middle of things! He does like to bark at birds, but seems to leave squirrels alone. When walking him, make sure to use a harness, and be prepared for him to declare the walk is over and that he wants to be carried, after all, royalty shouldn't have to walk everywhere! Whiskey came from unfortunate circumstances, but they have not dimmed his light. This boy has the most bright, sweetest personality you will meet. There is nothing he loves more than to lie in someone's lap. He is incredibly gentle and calm, and does great with other dogs and cats. When they get to be too much for him, or one crosses a line, he will growl to warn them away. So far, he does not know any basic commands but is highly treat motivated. He also eats his food at a comfortable pace, he won't scarf it down. We are working with his issue with marking in new places. When adopted Whiskey will be sent home with a belly band to help further his training. Whiskey does show interest in toys and especially tennis balls but he isn't too sure about them yet. His new home will teach him. He will also mouth your hand gently, its the only way he can hold hands! This beautiful boy is so fabulous and still has so much more potential. His forever family is going to see a magical transformation in their first year! How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly, but sometimes he can be a little shy. Don't worry, he warms up fast! Other tips and tidbits: Estimated Birthdate: 2/26/2014. Whiskey would love to go to a home with another dog but it is not needed. Special Needs? Whiskey's tear staining around his eyes was noted by our veterinarian. This may be reflecting a blocked tear duct and should continue to be monitored. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
