About Poppi

Adoption Fee: $175
Border Collie / Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Hi, I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs. Actually, that's a lie, not the hug part because I actually do love hugs, but I am Poppi! Poppi like the flower and just as pretty! I'm a one-year-old lady, formerly down on my luck, currently hanging with the cool local peeps at For Belle's Sake Rescue here in North Dakota, waiting for my soul mate to march in that door. You know us herding breeds are super-smart - some say smarter than a 7-year-old human! - and my person will get all the benefit of my brainpower, and more importantly, the super-heart that goes with it! Ready for some high-IQ love? Click me, or share me with your friends! It's the SMART thing to do! Oh, and I forgot, my rescue says my new best friend will get a free 8 week training course through Action Agility, Minot ND so I can be even SMARTER. Time to unlock my potential! Let's DO THIS! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intake: 2 Sep 19 ----- Adopted: 1 Feb 2020 ------- Returned to Rescue: 18 Apr 2020 (Separation Anxiety) Breed: Border Collie, Aussie, Heeler, Cattle dog Galore ----- Age: DOB July 2018 ----- Weight: 35 lbs ----- Status: owner surrender ----- Compatible with: medium to large dogs (have not small dog tested), courteous children. ----- Suitable for: home with fenced yard. No exceptions. ----- Medical/behavioral needs: Poppi has demonstrated separation anxiety in an apartment setting and a home. She needs a patient and understanding owner willing to work with her and exercise her daily. ----- Additional Notes: Previous owner was told she was a heeler, aussie but she has a lot of Border Collie tendencies in there with spinning and the famous border collie hugs! Poppi was unfortunately sold at 5 weeks old and separated from her mother and siblings so she has very typical behavior issues we seen when that happens. She is shy of new people and places and around new dogs. She is good with other dogs after proper introductions. We are told she does resource guard but we don't allow that to happen here so it isn't a problem. Every dog has their own area to eat and feel safe and unbothered. She has some scarring on her face that may never go away. She connects with her people and wants to be good, just hasn't had a lot of social training which her mother and siblings would have provided had she been allowed to stay with them until 8, preferably 10-12 weeks of age. Unfortunately, that didn't happen so now she has to deal with the aftermath. A big sign of a backyard breeder is the unwillingness to keep puppies with their mother for the correct amount of time wanting to turn a fast buck at the expense and welfare of the animal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Adoption fee is $175. All residents are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and treated for any known medical needs. If a yard is present, a fence is required. Breeds are not guaranteed. House training is not guaranteed but crate training is worked on with all residents.
