About BOOMER

Adoption Fee: $300
Foxhound
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

BOOMER was an owner surrender on 1st September 2019 due to the fact that he and his sibling were starting to not get along and due to a fight between the brothers, Boomer was going to be euthanized. Neither siblings were neutered and so most likely hormones and common sibling rivalry. BOOMER is a handsome Foxhound who is neutered, just had his 3 year booster rabies vaccine, core vaccines, heartworm/tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention and micro-chipped He has an estimated date of birth of 25 August 2018 and weighs 65 pounds. Following his neuter on 9th September 2019, Boomer went home to stay with a foster family who live in the Litchfield, Maine area, just south from Augusta and is acclimating well and the foster family adore him. He was adopted, however, after a few weeks was returned to the rescue and thankfully his foster family took him back in to continue working on his obedience and general training. BOOMER was returned from the family that adopted him as they said he was aggressive with food. He stole food from the counter tops and snatched out of their hands, with the last incident one of their children went to take a bite of cake and he went to eat at the same time, naturally their faces collided and it caused slight redness to the little girls face. No broken skin, no bruising, just a red mark. This obviously scared her and the family felt that Boomer was not the dog for them. BOOMER is a Hound dog, it is so very important that research is done and the family is prepared to work on the dogs needs, obedience is a must, especially with a 'teenage dog'. Most dogs will steal food from counter tops if they are able, most dogs will delight in sharing or taking human food if hey are allowed. It is so important that the family that takes Boomer into their hearts and homes makes sure he understands that he does not take food, he must learn to respect and whilst people are eating, until he learns not to just take when he feels like it, he needs to be away from human food and humans whilst they are eating. By doing this, he is learning his place in the family, he will respect and understand that he cannot just do what he likes and he will not be in a position where he can try and take food from either counter tops of humans. Boomer is a strong, young boy, he has been through a lot, now having 3 different homes in a one month period and it has to be confusing, it takes times for dogs to adjust and they must have routine, they must know rules and boundaries and these rules and boundaries MUST be enforced to make living together happy and safe. Boomer is a smart boy, he not only needs exercise, but he needs mental stimulation - this not only engages his brain and keeps him happy and challenged, but also instills the bond and relationship between him and his humans and strengthens the respect and therefore behaviour. He is basically a teenager! When with his foster family Boomer thrived, he was getting regular exercise, constant and constructive training and he knew his boundaries and what was acceptable and not. Boomer is a GREAT boy, he just needs a family that truly understands the breed and has the personality and lifestyle to give him what he needs. He is not aggressive, he just didn't have any boundaries and felt he could do what he liked, which in the case with his former family was just taking food when and from who he wanted. This is not acceptable behaviour for any dog. Notes from his foster family: BOOMER is a GREAT boy he is very affectionate, knows a few basic commands and loves to play. He definitely has that 'hound' personality and likes the company of other dogs, children, and adults and is heartbroken when left alone. Boomer has not been acclimated to cats but I think he would do fine. Hounds need a lot exercise and the foster family is currently working on leash and obedience training. Boomer is house trained and will let you know by whining or scratching at the door. At 65 pounds, Boomer is a strapping young hound and basically mild mannered in the home. Hounds can be independent and stubborn in nature, particularly if their nose is in pursuit of an outdoor smell. Boomer is lovable in nature and will definitely win you over with his charm, love and loyalty. On intake from the rescue. I was informed by the family giving him up that Boomer has lived with his sibling, another dog, two small children and his mum and dad and was a wonderful part of the family. He has never shown any aggression, was well behaved, house-trained, he would go on long walks, play frisbee, chew on bones and a Kong and LOVED people. When Boomer arrived at the rescue he was clearly stressed, upset and unsure what was going on. He has never been away from his brother and of course being left by his dad whom he has lived with since he was a small puppy caused some anxiety. He did settle down after a while and met some of the dogs.
