Rabbit

2 bunnies, Brother and Sister, about a year old were rescued on 08/11/19 from their original residence, need a forever home where they have freedom to hop around, spend time out on the grass, have daily source of clean, fresh food and water in clean dishes. They are from a litter of 9 that remain after the mum and about 5 'teenage' bunnies fell out of an outdoor hutch and were taken by foxes. These 2 had a litter of 6 last year, and to my horror, the owner ate them. The owner's wife is not doing well, and kept asking me to take them away. I couldn't due to my own financial issues and lack of residence. I finally did after seeing that the owner was still not taking care of them, tossing in bread rolls, giving them potato skins etc. which are not part of bunny diet. They were in hutches in an outdoor garage, very dingy, and not cleaned. If I didn't go and clean it, it would remain filthy. The two bunnies love and care for each other, are bonded and should not be separated. They just started using litter pans on Tuesday 27th, after using puppy training pads for 15 days. They adapt/learn very quickly. The male is very calm, and is ok in a crate. The female goes nuts when she's in the crate, so I stopped trying to put her in it. She overturns the food/water, and shoves the training pad out of the way. When she's free she feels better. She does get scared easily, and is scitterish. So, calm, slow movements, sooting voices, conversations would be needed. They now have fresh(store bought) orchard grass, rabbit food(pellets, seeds asst), grass from a friend's seed bed, kale, fruit/veg. Neither are spayed/neutered and I'm unable to, so they are not in the same room all the time. They do have supervised interaction. When one is in, I send the other out back on the deck, and switch each time one comes in/goes out. I do allow them to show affection- licking face, ears, back. I've separated them each time the male tried to mount, more so the first day they were here together. She would not allow him to, but yesterday they caught me off guard, and I stopped the moment I heard him. I just hope nothing happened in that short time. If she starts trying to build a nest, then I'll know that she's going to have babies. I just hope not. They are not in a suitable location for long term stay. It's just so I can take care of them, and transition them for a better home.
