About Precious (west)

Hi, my name is PRECIOUS - ID#A4288170. I am a spayed female, brown and white American Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter staff think I am about 8 years old, and I have been at the shelter since Jul 17, 2019. Precious is so sad and scared at the shelter. She came in as a stray and was pepper sprayed by PD, but I can't find anything in her notes that indicate why. She is so afraid at the shelter so she doesn't get out much, because she takes a little time to warm up to new people. Precious does love treats though, so with the help of some treats and a little patience, we were on our way to the yard. Precious is just flat-out scared of everything. She flinched when the other dogs bark, and walked around the yard with her tail tucked. It's so hard on these shy dogs to be surrounding by so much noise and stimulation 24/7. Precious did allow all handling though, and let me pet her all over. She is a very mellow gal who just seems lost and confused as to why she is at the shelter. We took a break inside and Precious flopped right down with a chew bone and calmly ate her treat while I did some computer work. I have no doubt that Precious will warm up in a home setting. We see these types of dogs all the time; all Precious needs is a calmer environment, patience and love, and she will blossom. She did well overall with her dog evaluation. She was timid, but appropriate with the other dogs. If you have a dog at home already, bring them in and we can help everyone meet.
