About AJ

Meet AJ This little nugget is feeling so uncertain right now, but boy isn't he cute? AJ was found wandering. His hero tried finding his owner with no luck. They had hoped to keep him but their schedule was too much for a puppy to thrive. The painful decision was made to bring him to our shelter on August 8, 2019, where we welcomed him with open arms. AJ is thought to be a Chihuahua/Pug mix. He's about eight months old and weighs about 12 pounds. He has a pretty light brown/tan colored coat and a little curly tail that wags ever so slightly when he greets you. AJ is currently staying in our kitchen so he can be part of the comings and goings of shelter staff and volunteers. We hope that by showing him an abundance of kindness he'll let down his guard and develop his confidence. AJ is afraid of loud noises, which hopefully he'll outgrow once he casts aside his previous life and learns to know only kindness. At just eight months old, AJ seems like an old soul looking at you with wise-old eyes, but he has a playful and frisky side that he'll show now and again. He gets along well with other dogs and seems to do okay with the office cats. He loves walking and is very easy to walk. He travels well and enjoys being with people he can trust. AJ is house-trained and happily does his business outside. Of course we make sure to get him out often given his small size. If you're looking for a pint-sized little buddy, come meet AJ. He is a wonderful companion dog and will make for a great family member. We think he's the bomb! AJ will be neutered, fully vetted and microchipped before going home. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoption hours are Tues, Thurs, Fri, and Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4.
