About Tom

Tom is available for foster or adoption. He is a Basenji mix of about 18 pounds and is currently fostered in Brandenton,FL (Manatee County). He came to us from a shelter in Alabama. He has been very quiet in his foster home, and has not barked at all. He occasionally plays with the other dogs, but he is really his own person with that Basenji aloofness. He does like to snuggle loves to be on the bed with you. Plays some with toys, but spends most of his time hunting lizards. He has gone in the pond but we have not seen any swimming yet. He is rather submissive to people, loves his belly rubs. He seems to be a bit head shy. Not afraid of noises, rain or thunder. Crate trained, extremely clean, fur is just so soft, and housebroken. He does not use the doggie door yet. Rides okay in the car. Will be a great dog for a moderately active family or an older couple. I think he would like his people around all the time. He is an adventurous soul and should ideally have a fenced yard, he feels the grass is greener on the other side. He does not at this time have a good recall either. Leash walk is okay but could use some fine tuning. Cats are probably a no, and he can be a bit leash aggressive to other dogs. Off lead he is just fine with dogs. He currently lives with 12 others, no issues, big and little, male and female. Overall, this little dude would be a great rv companion, fishing buddy, or just a snuggle buddy. Currently fostered in Bradenton area. Please research Basenjis as they are not dogs for everyone and he has Basenji qualities. We are a foster-based rescue organization with foster homes throughout the state of Florida.
