About Drover

Treeing Walker Coonhound mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Drover is a stray that appeared on our road after a series of heavy storms. After visiting most of the houses he decided that we should adopt him. He arrived wearing an old reflective orange collar, but despite numerous attempts over the past three months we have been unable to locate an owner. He arrived very thin and has regained most of his weight. We believe he is mostly Walker Coonhound and in the range of 1-2 years old, but could be older. Fully intact. He gets along well with our beagle and our 9yo. Doesn't chase our horses or neighbors cattle. Did bark at my horse once when I was riding, but I think he was being protective and has not done it since. Chickens may be iffy. He hasn't bothered our chickens, but neighbor said he went after their chickens and tried to kill one. Seems to feel safer around women, and somewhat fearful of men. Has finally started relaxing a little around my husband, but still barks at (and then cowers from) my dad. He seems to be a very happy and good natured dog when relaxed. Doesn't really play, but likes to run with my son and our dog. Doesn't bark, except at 'strangers' that come to our house or when treeing a cat/coon or when tied/penned up. Has not offered to bite. Learning to sit. We'd like to find him a home or a rescue where someone can work with him and get him into a better situation. If we can't find him a new location he will have to be put down as we are not in a position to keep him and he is causing problems with our neighbors. Updated 11-20-19: Has relaxed around male family members, so just needed time to become accustomed to men. Still seems to prefer women. We have paid for his neutering and vaccinations. Vet determined is he young, but at least 2 years of age. HE STILL NEEDS A NEW HOME. He is NOT WELCOME in our neighborhood and NEEDS to GO!
