About Duncan

Adoption Fee: $150
American Bulldog
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Male

When we got Duncan, on 5/27, we were told that he had been thrown from a car. I don't buy that because the people who saw it happen and took him to the ER vet knew he was a purebred American Bulldog and they'd already given him a name. (We changed it) He spent 4 days in the vet hospital with a collapsed lung and a broken leg. The poor little guy was 8 weeks old at best. He had limited feeling on one side of the injured foot so, in spite of the way it had already started to atrophy, we held on to hope that he would heal. After over two months of casts, splints, and braces, Duncan has regained feeling in both sides of his foot. Damaged nerves can regrow and repair themselves, but it's a very long and slow process. Duncan hops instead of running or walking. When he gets tired, the bad foot folds under him. ALL of his activity has to be supervised. But the leg is growing. And it's almost caught up to the size of his good leg. And he IS using it - even if mostly to swat at things. At this point, we're fairly certain that his leg will recover. But there are never any guarantees. Here's the problem; Duncan is a sweet, 40 pound, 4-month-old, puppy who has now spent over 1/2 of his young life in a cage. He's not allowed to wrestle and rough house with the others because he keeps reinjuring himself. He deserves a better life than this. I'd really like to find him a home - but not just any home will do. Duncan is okay with other animals but is very playful and rambunctious. We do not want him in a situation where he's set up for failure. He needs a home with older dogs who don't like to wrestle much or as an only dog. Duncan needs a mom or dad who knows commitment and responsibility and will do his exercises with him every day and closely monitor his recovery - AND be able to financially deal with the possibility of him losing that leg. How hard is it going to be to find someone to adopt a dog who they know MAY still need a leg amputated in the future in spite of their best efforts? I'm going to start looking for them now.
