About Lucy

Adoption Fee: $150
Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Lucy is a very sweet, goofy girl who has had a rough past. We got her when she was about 3 years old and she is about 4 now. Lucy is very low energy and she likes people, but it will likely take her some time to settle into a new house because of her nervousness. We love Lucy but always intended to foster her and now she is ready to find a new home. Lucy is house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and knows basic commands (sit, lay down, stay, leave it, off, heel). She has lived with us and 6 other dogs and two cats for the last year. Large dogs make her nervous (and she has been reactive to them) and I think she would do best as an only dog but she could do well with a nice slow introduction to a mellow small dog, she also loves puppies. She lives around chickens and ducks and does fine with them- she just leaves them alone. She has never gone after the cats and generally leaves them alone but does look at them a bit curiously sometimes so common sense with cats would be good. Lucy is low energy couch potato, she will stroll next to you happily on a walk but she is definitely not a long distance runner. She loves cuddles and sleeping on the couch. She likes strangers, does not jump, very rarely barks and hasn't displayed any resource guarding. I think an ideal house for her would be a nice quiet house in the woods, or with just one or two people. She has a lot of anxiety that she carries from the life of abuse that she suffered and I know our life is too hectic for her to be able to thrive. We actually rescued Lucy from being put down, she was adopted by another family who loved her to pieces- she slept with their grandmother and was their perfect dog. Unfortunately shortly after they rescued Lucy, the neighborhood kid introduced himself to Lucy by grabbing her face and smooshing his face into hers. Lucy because afraid and I assume tried to warn the boy but she got him with a tooth to the forehead and eyebrow. At first the neighbors said it was okay, there was no long term damage and Lucy did not mean to do it, plus the boy had been bitten boy his own dog for doing the same thing. However, the family then changed their mind and Lucy would have been put down if she stayed in New Jersey. We have never seen Lucy become reactive to a person, she has meet two young teenagers but no young children. However, with how nervous she is and how much more she must have been when she was just rescued I would not be surprised if she nipped the boy out of fear with him holding her head like that (it is very threatening to a dog). I just want what is best for Lucy- someone to love and understand her and let her live her best life. Thank you.
