Name: Gizmo Sex: Male Spayed/Neutered: Yes Breed: Terrier / Mixed (long coat) Weight: 9.2 lb Height: 10 in Estimated Birthdate: 7/18/2015 Fence Needed: No Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Adoption Fee:$200 Date into Rescue: 7/11/2019 Reason for being in rescue: Gizmo was found as a stray and landed at the shelter. CPR pulled him from the shelter. Special Needs: none noted What kind of home would be best for me: Gizmo is a young dog in an old man's soul. He enjoys the company of older dogs, but wants nothing to do with young dogs or young dog energy. Gizmo needs an experienced owner who can teach him manners. He is not suited for a home with children. He will also do better in a home where there are no crates. What is my personality like: As a 4 year old Terrier mix, Gizmo shows us daily good potty manners, and an ability to follow basic directions. He does not have a sit, rather he stands on his back legs and does a circle when given the cue. This circle redirects his attention to the task at hand. He does have one strong trigger - doors which clue Gizmo a transition is happening. He will react and dart after the person leaving as a warning to get out of his space. We have seen progress with treats as doors open and close with a transition. Gizmo's quick response shows this is a behavior that can be managed once he's in a stable home. Gizmo is independent, but not aloof. He will be great as an additional dog as a companion to a dog who is calmer and older. Right now, his best friends are the three old men who live with him; Toby (Yorkshire) and Cesar (Standard Poodle) are both 12+ years and Dazz (Yorkshire) is 11 and all are just Gizmo's style. His ideal dog mate would be a senior dog who needs a companion. Gizmo would love to be an old man right along with a senior dog. How do I act when I first meet new people: Generally, Gizmo is friendly with new people, especially if treats are involved. If you enter the room with a young dog, he is intensely curious about that dog. Tips and Tidbits: Gizmo's estimated birthday 7/18/2015 House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
