About Pablo

Adoption Fee: $375
Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier / Westie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Our Lovable Pablo is chock full of that 'je ne sais quois' that attracts so many dog lovers to the Terrier breeds. There is a joyous, tenacious intensity infused into these spirited little dogs, that draws devotees of all ages and walks of life. Just four years old, Pablo came to us as an owner surrender from NYCACC, where his options were limited after he caught the shelter kennel cough. Pablo's owners gave no reason for the betrayal, but he seemed to have lived in harmony with five children and a cat! Pablo experienced severe shelter shock, and couldn't acclimate to his new surroundings after losing his home and family. He was quickly booted from the shelter adoption program, and relegated to the euthanasia list. We couldn't help but invite this impossibly cute little guy into our Rescue! Pablo is a bright, perky little fella, who is full of the Terrier hijinks that are sure to please. He is likely a mix of the Soft Coat Wheaten and West Highland White Terrier Breeds. At 34 pounds, Pablo is a short, stocky boy, slightly overweight. He has bowed front legs that give him an endearing, comic look, but do not hinder mobility. His soft, wirey coat is white, with caramel markings, and is minimal shedding. He is easy to groom with bath and brush every so often, and may need a professional touch up a couple times a year. We were pleased with the quick progress that Pablo made, once arriving at our place. He warmed up nicely to his foster folks as he settled into his new life. Pablo is a medium energy dog, who needs a fair amount of exercise to avoid the pitfalls of boredom and frustration. Pablo would be the ideal companion to an active single or couple, whose lifestyle provides time for his exercise and training needs. He loves the outdoors and has surprised us with his affinity for swim time. Pablo can be pushy and territorial with other dogs, so he is best suited to an only dog home. He has lived with a cat and was reported to do well. Pablo genuinely loves people and craves human attention, but he may be suspicious of some strangers. Pablo has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot an occasional accident from a recently neutered male dog, as he adapts to his new potty schedule and routine. He has good car manners, and rides dutifully, as a superb sidekick! Pablo has not had a great deal of obedience training in his young life, but he has begun to grasp the basics. He walks well on lead, and enjoys his training sessions and responds to both leadership and positive rewards training techniques. He impresses us as a smart cookie, and has passed many of his Canine Good Citizen tests. Pablo is in good health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza), and has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed and microchipped.
