About SHINER

Adoption Fee: $400.00
Rhodesian Ridgeback / Lab
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

'SHINER' is an incredibly happy, 2 yr old, 76-80 lb. Rhodesian Ridgeback/Lab mix who was rescued from a very high kill pound. If you read descriptions about Rhodesian Ridgeback's, 'Shiner' is very atypical. He is neither 'strong willed, independent, and sometimes domineering'. Indeed, he is a submissive, tenderhearted follower. Eager to please, smart and very loving, Shiner can be a little shy & unsure of new people at first, especially men. However, he quickly accesses people who mean him no harm, and warms up readily. Shiner LOVES other dogs, and loves to play. He is very young in heart & mind, so he can be a little distracted if there is something fun that catches his eye. Shiner's good nature is contagious ... and he smiles nearly constantly! A natural athlete, he would be a terrific jogging buddy as well as exercise companion for another dog. Due to his youthful exuberance & size, we recommend a family with slightly older (8 yrs+) children. Shiner needs to have a companion dog; one who is good-natured, playful and confident to help Shiner continue to blossom into greater confidence. What Shiner's foster Mom says about him: 'Shiner is a beautiful 1 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback who is just now growing into his body so he has been really funny to watch. Because of the situation he was rescued from he is initially very timid and apprehensive in new situations and with new people until he knows he can trust you - then he will really wear you out! %BD%BD%BD%81S He has never snapped at anyone just tries to run and hide until he knows it is safe which given his size can be kind of funny. Once he knows everything is okay game on! After he discovered the stairs he absolutely loves to run up and down them. He gets along well with other dogs if he is allowed to be introduced to them slowly - again due to his background he wants to make sure they won't hurt him and then he will wear them out playing and running. He's outplayed quite a few of our dogs. He is always very excited to see his family when they have been gone or when he gets up in the morning (he is crate trained) - his tail wags his whole rear end! He is high energy and loves to run - didn't get a lot of that in his prior situation so he really loves it now and can just run for quite a while in circles outside (or inside if the weather's bad - can make quite a few laps around the dining room table.) He is a beautiful boy and has overcome a lot - he wants to feel safe and loved and is a wonderful dog who wants to be with his family whenever he can even if he is just hanging out in the room with them. He loves to snuggle up on the couch and has never had an accident in the house - he wants to go outside. He comes when he is called and we have started him walking on the leash which he is pretty good at unless he gets too excited and starts pulling - still got some puppy there but he learns quickly as he wants to make you happy. He loves toys and is not a barker unless he needs to go outside or there is a reason - like a stranger outside or another dog he doesn't recognize. He loves the most to be inside or outside hanging out with you. After his rough start he deserves a great family.' Shiner has been neutered, de-wormed, micro-chipped, is current on vaccinations, on monthly heart worm preventative, crate-trained and house-trained. This rescue does not administer it's own vaccination shots. All of our rescued dogs' medical care has been administered by a licensed Veterinarian. All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., pro-biotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition.
