About Cappy

Adoption Fee: $150
Italian Greyhound mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

This is a face that you have to love. Cappy is a senior Italian Greyhound mix. We believe he is 10 years old and he weighs 15 pounds. Cappy came to us after his previous owner moved to a care center due to health issues. A family member had Cappy for a while, but then brought him to our vet's office to be put down because he is old. The vet refused to do it just because the dog is old and asked if we would take him. How could we turn away such a unique little face? Cappy had horrible teeth, so the first thing we did was schedule him for a dental cleaning. Cappy also has a fistula, which is an opening from his gums into his nasal cavity. It happened because of a rotten tooth that came out on its own. It makes him snort sometimes, but otherwise it doesn't bother him. He is very mobile for an old guy and is capable of stairs. Cappy is a good boy who just likes to hang out with his people. He enjoys soft dog beds and sunbathing in the summer sun. We would like him to have a fenced yard because he has a small head and thin neck which makes collars problematic. He should wear a harness when on a leash. Cappy is very loving and gets along well with other dogs. We haven't tested him with cats, but he would probably just give them their space and leave them alone. All this guy wants is a comfortable home to live out the rest of his days. If you would like to give him a forever home, please start by filling out our adoption application that can be found on our website at If you have questions about Cappy or our adoption process you can contact or call 319-310-3120. Cappy is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, heartworm tested and microchipped. He does have a heart murmur, but it is not severe and is not causing him any issues at this time. He is housetrained as long as he gets out every 4 hours or so. Cappy has good house manners and does not need to be kenneled when left homes alone. Indoor homes, only. Adopters within two hours of Cedar Rapids, IA only, please. Adoption fee is $150.
