About Roseanne

German Shorthaired Pointer
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS: Roseanne, a.k.a. Rosie, is a 1 1/2 year old GSP on the smaller size at 38 lbs. She is very agile and can jump a 4 ft. chain link fence. FENCED YARD WITH AT LEAST A 6 FT HIGH PRIVACY FENCE IS REQUIRED. She wiill need total supervision until fully trained to stay in yard within the fenced area to make sure she can't jump over or dig under the fence. Gets along well with other dogs and gets along GREAT with CATS! An active family with previous GSP experience would be ideal for Rosie. ROSEANNE'S STORY: Rosie gets along well with other dogs, dogs of all sizes. She is submissive when she first meets them but quickly warms up and wants to play. She gets along quite well with her GSP foster brother. When he doesn't want to play she will happily amuse herself in her yard by chasing squirrels, chipmunks, birds, rabbits, flies, snowflakes, leaves, anything that blows in the wind or runs in the grass. Rosie is timid by nature, she naturally reacts in a scared, withdrawn manner when she's around loud noises and if she's being corrected with too loud OF A voice. At this time, we assume Rosie will react this way if placed in a home with a lot of noise and smaller, loud children; however, we also believe she wouldn't hurt any children if she's adopted by a family who has younger kids. Older children who understand not to run and yell at her would probably be ideal. She would do best with a training method that uses rewards and soft encouraging tones. Rosie is crate-trained and will readily go into her crate if she is asked to especially if she knows a treat-filled kong is waiting for her. Her foster family uses treats to train her and it seems to be working. Rosie needs to be supervised when someone opens a door to the outside. When she first came to her foster home she ran out the front door and was lost for a short time. Now she is made to wait when someone goes to the door. She stops and stays if her foster mom says 'no' or 'uhuh, Rosie'. Rosie's foster mom says this about Rosie's personality: 'Rosie is timid when she meets a new person but once she is comfortable she is a doll, so sweet and extremely loving. She loves to be held and petted while on my lap and is a great snuggler. She doesn't bark or whine and is calm and quiet for the most part. And a big plus is she doesn't counter surf or get in the garbage!' Rosie and her new family will benefit significantly by attending obedience classes together. A professional/knowledgeable trainer who understands dogs with a timid and withdrawn personality will be of great benefit to Rosie and her family. Attending classes, along with additional homework outside of class, is also a wonderful way to bond with Rosie and provide her the opportunity to trust her new family. Rosie is working on her leash manners and has really improved. An active family that enjoys running and/or hiking will be a perfect match for Rosie's energy level. As we recommend for all of our dogs, having her on a secured lead is extremely important to keep her safe, especially when a sudden loud noise could make her bolt. We'd like to close with some final thoughts from Rosie's foster mom. She has so many good things to say about Rosie, we want to be sure we share most of them with you. 'Rosie is truly an all-around good dog'|completely house-broken and crate-trained. If she has a chew bone, she finds a place where she can quietly chew away and relax. If we play fetch with her, she'll run and get the toy it, toss it, and bring it back to us. We love to let her play the Rosie way.' By now, we hope you see Rosie in the same way we do. A loving, sweet but timid, 'total package' puppy who's a little rough around the edges'|a diamond in the rough.
